... about ways to photograph a final piece and saw an advert that ever so slightly caputres what I wanted to do, just a little bit.
This new wave of designing adverts and displaying is really cool, like http://store.paintthestars.co.uk/'s new advertising and the re-designing of Honnor Over Glory

Creating his own art community in under 5 years? He gets a massive pat on the back!
They do all kinds of really cool feature films and pool resources over the internet which he can then take to somewhere like sundance film festival and get it out there and seen by actual people, all stemming from one person having an idea that they post on to the community page. Nothing really to do with my project but I thought it was amazing enough to share.

Ellen von Unwerth
Had a quick look around to try and get some inspiration yesterday, and I think I may have cracked it - Ellen von Unwerth. It's interesting the way she thinks of her femeninity and of those around her, she did album covers for All Saints and Christina Aguillera, and the difference between them is remarkable, she manages to judge just how explosive they should be.
The above photoshoot was done for GQ magazine, and there isn't anything explicit about it but it's fun and quirky and your mind does half the work for you.
"(Women) are not just there to be admired, they are there to be enjoyed."--Ellen Von Unwerth
Most of her work is very fashion based, so to work in her style i'd have to create something quite fashion(-y).
I could transfer my image onto fabric? maybe a tshirt then I could photograph it in a similar manner, obviously not an explicit way. But in a cheeky 50's kinda way.
I can print off my design and then iron it onto a shirt? :) win!

Someone beat me to a big bull on a building :(
mine would've been better.
On the plus side, i've been looking at funny things I can do to characterise various images and objects around me, i think i should make something slightly different than a bull - although i do think it was still a valid idea. Birmingham seems abit bull-heavy.

Getting a bit further...
I paid a visit to Da font and got some really cool cartoony batman-esq fonts I can play with, and do a digital version of my idea for the print.
a really basic outline of what i've got so far, I need a womans image. my palette is very basic greys and blacks and whites, abit like an old print. It's a tiny bit Barbara Kruger-ish

Same constructivist principals, block bold colours, basic text.

the style of image i'm after achieving
http://easydreamer.blogspot.com/ has lots of images/videos etc that are very influential, particular attention on the lables and advertisments
I've been looking at my video, and now what I think I need (as I've already got one with personal refrences, is maybe just someone talking to me normally, if I can just play them at the same time, without the sound it wont sound awful and clashy, but two different parts of life? maybe.) is someone brave enough just to talk to me as I film them. I think it's nice the way i've got it, not using a really technical camera or anything, the grainyness adds to the sponteneaity of the piece.

Pencilling away..
I started by just sketching out some rough ideas, using A Softer World as a big inspiration, the quirky way they present their pictures and text is really bold. I also looked at a slightly consctructivist approach, keeping it quite simple, instruction manuals have to be quite simple. Then got abit carried away...
Now maybe a mock up with instead of a drawing of someone looking astounded at the amazing abilities of a pencil, a person?
------
On another note, I think i've collected a video that really speaks to me :)
& I kinda lost any constructivist approach haha, I got some inspiration too from:
combined with lots of kinda 50s inspired postcards and advertisements, old movie posters etc.

Just realised where I probably got my original character ideas from...whoops. Subsconsciously ripping my orange pendrive off. :) At least I realised.
Lots of scribbles and overlaying lines, Antoinette Fleur (one of the illustrators for Fashion Week) is proof you don't have to be neat to create something beautiful!
I had a bash at a fashiony type illustration (just for practice) ^
Now all I need to do is get pencilling (pun intended)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Object: "Design an instruction manual for a pencil"
I think i'm getting more to grips with this heading now, still struggling with Context though :(
I've been looking at illustrators (♥) and ways of depicting a pencil, which will obviously need to be in any kind of manual.
Whereas Monsieur Qui Is very clean cut and precise which works really well.

Another workshop?!

:) i'm actually well impressed, i'm usually naff with computers, but I managed to crack out a beautiful little swf file.
This reminds me of a lot of Michael Economy's work, lots of thick lines and sparing colour, but really effective.
Lovely little chap :D

He did alot of the orignial artwork for Anna Sui advertising.
Also similar to the thick simple lines (again) used by Giles Andreae in the purple ronnie adverts for vimto,Lovely little chap :D
The darkroom...(OooOoOoo)
Everything went abit Moholy Nagy again,
The obligatory hand pictures everyone has to do when they fiddle in the darkroom haha
I took an image I considered would come out more in a graffiti-ish style, I ripped it from a magazine and messed about with it abit (tearing, scrunching) and used my qee too, the results were really nice (my laptop wont rotate those pictures for some reason)
I did learn something new though ^ if you fog all the paper then paint, or dab, or splatter etc developer onto the page it gives the opposite effect, it looks really good :)

Long time coming
I've been trying to bash out a character again, and it's not really working. It might be worth my while adding something in after i've taken a picture?
I prefer this one so far, the rounded edges look nicer, the whole thing seems alot cuter.
It doesn't look like i'll make a graffiti artist at this rate haha
